This was a super last-minute booking with the Groom – Jonathan – booking me on Thursday before his Sunday wedding! What a whirlwind! I managed to make it work, prepped everything to go, and off I went from Yorkshire to do the Singing Waiters in Lancashire.
I pulled up to the venue, Astley Bank Hotel, to a swarm of wedding guests outside, enjoying their drinks post-ceremony and playing Garden Games, and taking photos. As this is a secret show, I parked up in the car park, and casually strolled past. (Trying to be covert in my Dr. Martens and jeans like I totally belonged there)
I spoke to the lovely wedding planner Lauren, and realised the only way into the venue was through the front door and past the guests……. now I have happened across this before and we make it work. Lauren spoke to the Best Man, Sam…who spoke to the Groom… who made sure everyone was moved to the other side of the building so I could covertly sneak my equipment into the room. Sam even held the door open for me as I ran inside with speakers, cables, and boxes! What a Gent!
The venue was beautifully decorated, I took some photos of what was created to keep as ideas for my own friend’s wedding, then discovered the bride had done this herself – WHAT A TALENT! I especially loved the table plan idea, using the ‘dodgy’ Facebook photos and star wars names for each table. Great idea!!
The team at Astley Bank Hotel was ever so helpful, and really made me feel welcome! I set up as quietly as possible and hoped no one looked through the windows but gladly, the garden games were creating a welcome distraction. I donned my uniform and blended in with the serving staff, trying to look ‘busy’ and helping where I could. Speeches…Starters…..Mains….. then it was time for ME! Boy…… what a surprise….. I never usually see the look on people’s faces as I tend to look up (being small like I am lol) but I managed to catch them on video!!! (See below)
Jonathan and Hannah had their special day at last after covid delayed their plans and I am very grateful to be asked to take part…. we had a BLAST! Thanks guys, and all the very best for the future.
Special mention to the party table who always contribute so well to the show (there is one at every wedding but these guys were awesome!)
